November 27: 1648. A universal was made public by the Polish King Jan II Casimir guaranteeing privileges for the Cossacks.

1918. The Ukrainian Academy of Science was created in Kyiv, electing Volodymyr Vernadsky as its first president.

November 28: 1918. The Provisional Workers’ and Peasants’ Government of Ukraine was created, issuing a manifesto on overthrowing Hetman Pavlo Skoropadsky and establishing the Soviet power in Ukraine.

1994. A Constitutional Commission meeting was held in Kyiv, meaning official renewal of the constitutional process in Ukraine.

November 29: 1661. Lviv University, now named for Ivan Franko, was founded.

1989. Victims of Stalinist repression were reburied in Ivano- Frankivsk.

November 30: 1921. The All-Ukrainian Central Executive Committee passed a resolution on amnesty for the workers and peasants serving in hostile armies and/or living abroad.

1996. The State Tax Service of Ukraine was created.

December 1: 1959. Twelve countries, including the USSR, signed a treaty on using Antarctic for peaceful scientific purposes.

1991. The people of Ukraine confirmed the Act of Ukraine’s Independence by free will at a referendum.

December 2: 1864. Semen Hulak-Artemovsky’s opera Zaporozhzhian Cossack Beyond the Danube was first staged in St. Petersburg.

1917. An extraordinary meeting of the Small Rada of the Ukrainian National Republic passed a law On Amnesty.

December 3: 1918. The Provisional Workers’ and Peasants’ Government of Ukraine approved a decree On Creating the All-Ukrainian Extraordinary Commission to Fight Counterrevolution, Profiteering, Sabotage, and Malfeasance, later known as the KGB.

1932. The Council of People’s Commissars passed a decision prohibiting meat and livestock trade in the oblasts failing to fulfill the plan for meat purchases. The decision furthered aggravation of food crisis and famine in the country.
