May 25: 1709. By order of Muscovite Tsar Peter I the Zaporozhzhian (Chortomlyn) Sich was destroyed.
1940. The Ukrainian Congress Committee of America [UCCA] was founded.
May 26: 1648. Cossack troops headed by Bohdan Khmelnytsky won a victory over the Poles near Korsun.
1942. Great Britain and the USSR signed a treaty on the alliance in the war against Nazi Germany and its allies in Europe and on cooperation and mutual assistance after the war.
May 27: 1821. The Mykolayiv Astronomical Observatory was founded.
1967. A protest demonstration against the arrest of the participants of Shevchenko soiree was held in front of the building of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Ukraine in Kyiv.
May 28: 1763. A painting school was founded in Kyiv.
1917. The First All-Ukrainian Peasants’ Congress held in Kyiv supported the Central Rada policy aimed on gaining autonomy for Ukraine.
