April 5: 1657. A council of Cossack senior officers passed a resolution in Chyhyryn making the office of Hetman hereditary.
1992. The Black Sea Fleet was proclaimed Ukrainian by decree of Ukrainian President Leonid Kravchuk.
April 6: 1921. The All-Ukrainian Central Executive Committee resolved to form Istpart, The Commission on the History of the Communist Party, October Revolution, and Socialist Movement in Ukraine, patterned on its Russian counterpart.
1950. The USSR Council of Ministers passed a secret resolution that persons deported in 1944- 1949, irrespective of the term of banishment, should be considered exiled for life.
April 7: 1906. The illegal Bolshevik newspaper Soldat (Soldier) began publication in Sevastopol.
1989. A commemorative sign was unveiled in Kyiv to honor the heroic exploits Soviet and Polish antiaircraft gunners during the battle of Kyiv in World War II.

1974. The first Soviet 182,000-ton supertanker Krym was launched in Kerch.

1996. Ukraine introduced the system of wholesale purchases and sales of electricity.
