February 22: 1945. The USSR Council of People’s Commissars decided to build a subway in Kyiv (the first stage was commissioned in 1960).

1994. A Ukrainian diplomatic representation was officially opened in the Republic of Cuba.

February 23: 1927. The Ukrainian SSR Council of People’s Commissars resolved to assist nomadic Gypsies to switch over to a settled and working way of life.

1967. The Presidium of the USSR Supreme Soviet awarded the title of Hero of Socialist Labor to Oleksandr Korniychuk and Pavlo Tychyna.

February 24: 1919. Ukraine and Poland signed an armistice.

1986. The 2,500,000th Zaporozhets car came off the conveyor of the Zaporizhia automobile plant.

February 25: 1573. Ivan Fedorov founded a print shop in Lviv.

1957. The State Publishing House for children’s literature was established in the Ukrainian SSR.

February 26: 1878. A trial began in Lviv against a group of well-known Galician public figures accused of revolutionary activities.

1993. The Ministry of Justice of Ukraine registered the Popular Movement of Ukraine (Rukh).

February 27: 1939. The First Congress of Ukrainian Composers opened in Kyiv, which formed the Ukrainian Union of Composers.

1995. Verkhovna Rada passed the law On Information Agencies.

February 28: 1918. The Red Army abandoned Kyiv.

1961. The Presidium of the Ukrainian SSR Supreme Soviet appointed Volodymyr Shcherbytsky Chairman of the Ukrainian SSR Council of Ministers.
