1992. Verkhovna Rada Ukraine approved the traditional national blue-yellow flag as Ukraine’s official one.
January 29: 1900. The Revolutionary Ukrainian Party (RUP), Eastern Ukraine’s first political party, was founded in Kharkiv.
1918. In the Battle of Kruty 300 Kyiv cadets fell in an unequal fight to defend Kyiv from the Bolshevik Red Guards.
January 30: 1918. The UNR government turned to Germany and Austria-Hungary for military aid to liberate Ukraine from the Bolsheviks.
1937. The extraordinary XIX Congress of Soviets of Ukraine approved a new Constitution of the Ukrainian SSR.
