July 22 1819: Ivan Kotliarevsky operetta Natalka Poltavka premieres in Ukraine.

2001: President Jiang Zemin of the People’s Republic of China pays an official visit to Ukraine. A number of bilateral instruments are signed during his meetings with President Leonid Kuchma of Ukraine.

July 23 1920: The first gubernia convention/congress of the komnezam poants committees is called to order in Poltava, with measures aimed at strengthening komnezams, securing an alliance between the working class and “medium-level” peasantry, and against banditry

1990:  Leonid Kravchuk is elected Chairman of the oe oe oe oe oeVerkhovna Rada of the Ukrainian SSR.

July 24 1880: Members of a joint Narodnaia volia (People’s Will) and Chorny peredel (Black Partition) group are brought to trial in Kyiv.

1990: The true national gold-and-blue flag of Ukraine is for the first time unfurled, along with the official flag of the Ukrainian SSR, in front of the building of Kyiv’s City Council of People’s Deputies.

July 25 1920:  White Guard units of the Russian army launch an operation aimed at seizing the Donetsk Basin (Donbas) in the vicinity of Oleksandrivka.

1983:  The construction of the 4,451 km Urengoi-Pomary-Uzhhorod transcontinental gas pipeline is completed.

July 26 1995: Moscow and Kyiv officials sign a treaty in Russia’s capital city on the main principles of creating Ukraine-Russia financial-industrial groups, on combined efforts in protecting the environment, etc.

July 27 1649: Ukrainian rebels, led by Bohdan Khmelnytsky, defeat the Polish troops in the Battle of Zbarazh.

1991: Kyiv hosts a convention of former Soviet army officers, now citizens of Independent Ukraine, initiated by the RUKH movement. It establishes the Officers Union of Ukraine and determines its main objective

July 28 1945: Lviv’s History Museum opens its doors after a major renovation.

1993: Ukraine’s defense minister and his US counterpart sign a memorandum of understanding in Washington, DC.
