Nov. 20 1917: The Ukrainian National Republic (UNR) is proclaimed.

1994: The Ukrainian-US Partnership, Friendship and Cooperation Charter is signed during Ukrainian President Leonid Kuchma’s visit to the United States.

Nov. 21 1996: President Leonid Kuchma of Ukraine signs an edict establishing the national mother-and-child social protection foundation “Ukraine for her Children”.

2004: Repeat presidential elections are held in Ukraine.

Nov. 22 2004: Presidential candidate Viktor Yushchenko declares he does not trust the Central Election Commission.

2004: Thousands of people gather on Independence Square in Kyiv for a civil disobedience rally, alongside mass rallies of protests in various regions of Ukraine, marking the start of the Orange revolution.

Nov. 23 1990: Parliamentary delegations of democractic forces in Ukraine, Belarus, Lithuania, and Latvia meet in Miensk.

2004: Nationwide strike begins in Ukraine with the National Salvation Committee assuming responsibility for the protection of democracy.

Nov. 26 1917: Crimean Tatars hold a constituent assembly (Kurultai) putting forth the motto “Crimea for Crimeans!”

2004: Viktor Yushchenko, Viktor Yanukovych, and Leonid Kuchma meet to negotiate transition of power in Ukraine; their meeting ends in a joint statement boiling down to the start of the negotiating process.
