On November 27, when the Ukrainian nation honored the Holodomor victims’ memory, Anatolii Tymoshchuk played the Bayern Munich-Eintracht Frankfurt match with a mourning ribbon. With this simple gesture, he told the world about our tragedy, saying more than dozens memoranda and resolutions could possibly say.
In addition, Tymoshchuk’s views were backed by professional success — that night he scored two goals for Bayern. The Germans thanked Tymoshchuk for his world-class game, while the Ukrainians did the same (some mentally, others via online) for his patriotism.
High-ranking professionals, such as prominent athletes or singers, have a special responsibility to show their countries and supporters what a true civic stand is, and we thank Tymoshchuk for it.
