The jury of the second All-Ukrainian Festival of Youth Amateur Films DVERY gave the first prize to the short-length film The Prodigal Son. Its author Oleksandr Sloboda from Lutsk interpreted the biblical parable: the main character stole some money from his parents and left home; however, after some ordeals he came back home and found understanding and was forgiven. Meanwhile, his life was recorded by omnipresent video cameras: television, amateur, cameras in supermarkets and streets… It is not the first time that Oleksandr Sloboda participates in the festival. Last year he sent a scenario. However, now he was awarded Zoloti Dveri [Golden Doors. – Ed.] for his film.
Two authors were awarded Sribni Dveri [Silver Doors. – Ed.]: Pavlo Vozniuk for his short film The Fifth Brigade (spectators also chose it as the best film) and Tania-Maria Lytvyniuk for The Spring. Oksana Artemenko and Andrii Mykhailov were awarded Bronzovi Dveri [Bronze Doors. – Ed.] for the film Hope and the unofficial promo video about Lutsk, respectively. In general, there were about 70 short-length films to choose from. The films represented different genres: Bulgakov’s story interpretation of authorship, songs performed with finger-speech, observations and portrait films. Their authors are from the regions of Rivne, Volyn, Kyiv, Cherkasy, Kherson, Kharkiv, Kamianets-Podilsky, Simferopol, Dniprodzerzhynsk and other cities. “The adventurous experiment called the All-Ukrainian Festival of Youth Amateur Films DVERY has paid off. Today it is a cultural event,” Oleksii Hubanov, deputy head of the oblast state administration and initiator of the project summed up. “The participants of this year festival demonstrated professional level. Their films are worth showing on TV.”
