World champion of 2013, Ukrainian fencer Olha Kharlan will receive a gold medal of the International Fencing Federation (FIE) as the passing season’s top saber fencer, Ukrinform reported quoting the federation’s official website fie.ch.
The report reads: “The award ceremony for the best fencers of 2013 will take place on November 29 in Paris (France) at the FIE’s congress celebrating its 100th anniversary.” Beside Kharlan, the FIE’s gold medals will go to epee fencers Ana Maria Branza (Romania) and Ruben Limardo Gascon (Venezuela), foil fencers Arianna Errigo (Italy) and Andrea Cassara (Italy), and saber fencer Veniamin Reshetnikov (Russia). Let us recall that Kharlan won the gold medal of the World Fencing Championship in the individual competition in Budapest (Hungary) in August, for the first time in her career. She also won saber team competition at the Beijing Olympics (2008) and world championships in 2009 and 2013 as a member of the Ukrainian national team.
