Yemeni residents celebrated the departure of Ali Abdullah Saleh to Saudi Arabia. They hope that he will never return. The duties of the head of state are being performed by Vice President Abd al-Rab Mansur al-Hadi, but the opposition demands that a transitional presidential council be created.
“This council will form the transitional government and draft a constitution which meets the demands of the Yemeni people for freedom and well-being,” the opposition spokesperson Wassem al Gorashi stated.
Meanwhile Riyadh reports that President Saleh has undergone two successful surgeries and is conscious. Ali Abdullah Saleh, as well as other leaders of the country, was wounded on Friday during a prayer in a shelling attack on the mosque. The president suffered a shrapnel wound to the chest, and burns to his chest and face. He was brought to Saudi Arabia for treatment. It is expected that he will try to come back to Sanaa two weeks after the needed recovery course. Some speculate that he may also need plastic surgery.
