The exhibition was prolonged at the initiative of Lviv Polytechnic, as the number of visitors remains high from day to day. It is not the first time such acclaim is expressed in the city – the exhibition dates have already been readjusted several times before. The main factor of that in Lviv is the abundance of the university’s guests, presentations, press conferences, meetings (which always attract many participants); the start of the tourist season; and certainly, the students’ exams time. Any day, including weekdays, there are people walking, watching, and contemplating. In two weeks the visitors have left over 60 reviews and thanks for the photos across 8 pages of the review book. Interestingly, the geography of the book’s contributors vary, apart from residents of Lviv and the city’s immediate vicinity, there are people from Rzeszow, Pervomaisk, and Uzhhorod...
“NEW UNDERSTANDING OF CURRENT EVENTS”
Yurii BOBALO, rector of the National University “Lviv Polytechnic”:
“We all remember the words of great and incomprehensible Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, who expressed the unbridled pleasure of life’s fullness and beauty: ‘Linger on, fair moment!’ One can say ‘Linger on, significant and inspiring moment!’ – this would be the perfect description of these wonderful photographs, which had numerous spectators at Den’s Photo Exhibition that is now being hosted in the main lobby of the historical building of Lviv Polytechnic. And these words are also applicable to the invaluable published gifts presented by Den: Return to Tsarhorod; ‘Trap,’ or A Case without a Statute of Limitations; I, an Eyewitness. Notes from the Occupied Luhansk; Catastrophe and Triumph. The Stories of Ukrainian Heroes. This is the moment of truth, like a sip of fresh spring water – a new understanding of controversial current events, spiritual truths and values of our people; a sudden enlightenment from the realization that the path of independence and European civilizational paradigm we have chosen is indeed the life-changing path for Ukraine and its people. First of all, I want to express gratitude to the initiator of this very important nationwide discussion on our present day – Larysa Ivshyna, Den’s editor-in-chief. She is a talented journalist and publisher, a woman of amazing intellectual and creative power, a relentless enlightener of Ukrainian nation – both on the pages of her newspaper, and in live dialog with people. I wish the extraordinarily talented creative team of newspaper Den inspiration for their work, new discoveries and frontiers! And we are happy to welcome and support all your good endeavors.”
“THAT WHAT HURTS THE MOST IN ALL OF US”
Olha SYSHCHUK, student of Lviv Polytechnic:
“For me the main building of Lviv Polytechnic has always been a place to find inspiration. But in the past two weeks there has been a realm of emotions, thanks to the exhibition by Den. The photo exhibition opens new and topical pages of Ukraine’s life, among them – that what hurts the most in all of us (though sometimes we do not speak about it), the war in the east. It is impossible to watch this selection of photos and remain indifferent. I am the most impressed by the works: Father and Sons, At a Concert, and Mariupol after the GRAD Shelling. I was pleasantly surprised by the following photos: Tenderness, Positive Mozart and humorously-sensitive Rehearsal of a Farewell because such apparently simple images can once again remind us that life does not only takes time, but it carries on. If they, in the east, are able to appreciate it, we like no other have to be grateful and make the most of every day. In general, every picture here is a flurry of emotions. There are no primitive photos here, every one of them is deep in meaning. I would like to express my sincere thanks to Den for the excellent organization of the event within the walls of our university. This place is always bustling with students’ progressive thought, as they always show the thrill of heart and desire for change for a better future and stronger Ukraine.”
Den’s Photo Exhibition is opened at the main building of Lviv Polytechnic: 12 Bandera Street. Working hours are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., the admission is free. Each visitor can vote for the best photo in their opinion. Hurry up to choose Lviv’s favorite picture!
