Our permanent contributor, Lutsk-based journalist Natalia Malimon, was recognized the best in her profession in 2001 by the Volyn oblast branch of the National Journalists’ Union of Ukraine. The Day’s devoted readers know that this author’s life stories dedicated to ordinary (not that ordinary, it appears) people of this region (and not only this) are true gems of our newspaper. The Day called our favorite author.
How do you find the heroes for your stories?
I simply go to them. However, some of my best articles were created spontaneously, brought to life by a random phrase or a chance meeting. With time I developed an ability to notice interesting topics, though people often scold me [for my articles]. I always answer them in the words of a Russian classic: Who is to blame? And what to do? (if life is what it is). What am I to write about? I always torment myself over seeking a topic. This is not easy, and maybe this is why it’s so interesting.
What are your priorities in preparing materials?
The first and foremost is not to insult a person, even if I write a critical article on him/her, simultaneously adhering to the truth. Second is to elevate a so called little person, primarily in his/her own eyes.
What is your formula for active journalism?
This is easy. Today’s answers for today’s questions.
Who are your readers?
Both oblast governor and a little old lady from a faraway village.
It is nice to know that owing to Den’/ The Day Natalia Malimon’s talent is recognized not only throughout Ukraine but abroad. Our newspaper subscribes to all greetings and wishes Natalia further success on her journalistic path.
