Berestechko Public History Museum has established an exhibition covering the days and nights of the Euromaidan, which changed Ukraine and Ukrainians as well as the wider world. The museum’s director Oleh Derhai participated in the protests side by side with the fallen Mikhail Zhyznevsky, whom he met there. As a museum worker, Derhai could not ignore things that are already turning into museum exhibits.
These things will be a kind of revelation for quite a few people. They include winter hats that were issued to protesters in the early days to dampen rubber bullets’ impact, helmets, gloves, and balaclavas, newspapers and leaflets published in Maidan, badges of the protest’s guards, cooks, and doctors, and even paving stones used as ammunition... Derhai has managed to convince many protesters to donate their personal property, which has acquired historical value, to the museum. The exhibition includes also rubber and metal bullets and shells found at the barricades in Hrushevsky and Instytutska streets.
