Specialized exhibitions “Book 2013” and “Advertising. Printing. Media” opened on March 26 in Donetsk. Forum “Days of Advertising and Publishing Business in Ukraine” attracted many visitors to the exhibition center “ExpoDonbass,” many of whom are active consumers and users of services provided by various media.
Printed and electronic mass media as well as TV broadcasters and radio workers presented their publications and projects. The companies that stood up the most were those that specialize in making promotion and souvenir products and that took a creative approach to the design of their stands. At the exposition visitors could see dragons, puppet bunny that was handing out cards, and a large Oscar statuette. One of the most unusual stands was the one presented by the cultural platform “Isolation”: pebbles were scattered on the floor around the representatives of the fund, unusual souvenirs were arranged on a handmade table, and books on art and philosophy put neatly on a shelf.
There were no extraordinary special effects near the stand No. 111 where The Day presented its Library series. We presented Donetsk our branded toy horse and the “tree of achievements” – this was the most crowded spot. Guests of the exhibition not only looked through the newspaper issues with great interest, they were also actively buying The Day’s books. It turned out that the intellectual Donetsk is most interested in such books as “Armor-Piercing Political Writing” series, Ukraine Incognita, Wars and Peace…, The Power of the Soft Sign, and books by James Mace became the reason for attending this exhibition for many. “For me the topic of the Holodomor is very special. I ran to ExpoDonbass during my lunch break only to buy books by James Mace and nearly all the books from The Day’s Library. I also regularly subscribe to the newspaper,” said Hennadii Butko.
In addition to the presented publications, The Day arranged a mini video room for the visitors of the exhibition: everyone could watch thematic programs with The Day’s Editor-in-Chief Larysa Ivshyna. And the most popular photographs that have recently been presented at The Day’s Photo Exhibition in ArtDonbass decorated the stand and created a special atmosphere for the guests. “I immediately noticed familiar photos and quickly came here. The Day is my favorite newspaper because it presents a large scope of information, but at the same time it is very balanced. I especially like political analytics. Of course, I purchased books from the “Armor-Piercing Political Writing” series already at the photo exhibition in ArtDonbass. It is interesting for me to read it not only because I am a philologist, but also as a patriot. These are the thoughts and ideas of the greatest minds of the 20th century! When I look at the books from The Day’s Library I can hardly make a choice of what is the most interesting to me,” said student of Donetsk National University Oleksandr Prokudin.
Perhaps, it is symbolic that a stand of Vasyl Stus Museum, which presented his publications, photos from family archive, scanned letters from his diary, and his autographs, was right opposite the stand of The Day. And a little further the guests of the exhibition could learn more about literary heritage of the great poet from the researchers of his creative work and attend the presentation of the book Vasyl Stus. Letters into Eternity. It is really great that so much attention was paid to the great author, who rehabilitated Ukrainian Soviet literature, at the exhibition “Book 2013.”
