The first city to win the right to host the display of the best photographs of the 18th International Photo Exhibition Den-2016 is Sumy. Den’s Days here are going to last from January 20 to February 5, 2017. Overall, 140 selected photographs from the “Family Album of Ukraine” (as the exhibition is called) will be put on display at Sumy municipal gallery. The opening ceremony, which will be attended by Den’s authors, will be held on January 20 at 17:00 in the premises of the municipal gallery, 27 Soborna St.
Those lucky enough to attend the previous photo exhibit held in Sumy few years ago are of course to become the very first visitors of the new one. After all, people came here from different regions and even from other countries to view the display.
Liudmyla FESENKO, director of the Agency for Promotion in Sumy, comments: “Den’s exhibition has become a landmark project for the Sumy Municipal Gallery and for the residents of the city. Year 2013 saw the excellent cooperation between our organizations, with so many reviews that it was not possible to miss the event, which means that the project has left a big impression. This exhibition is vital and sincere, and these qualities are very important to us; that is what I am very impressed about.”
“Den’s Photo Exhibition has already become a tradition for Sumy Municipal Gallery and its visitors – as well as, so to speak, a remarkable opening to 2017. I think that the project will not leave anyone indifferent. So I hope that in these three weeks as many visitors as possible will be able to see and get the sincere, authentic emotion, to leave great feedback, and to share their experiences with friends, family, and maybe with us. Looking ahead, we hope that in 2018 the halls of Sumy Municipal Gallery will once again open an exhibition of our partners and good friends – newspaper Den.”

Also, every visitor will be able to buy a book from Den’s Library or subscribe to the newspaper.
Also on January 20, at 13:00, the students, faculty, and visitors at Sumy State University (SSU) will be able to speak with the newspaper’s authors about Den as a quality alternative, and take part in the presentation of the latest book of an impressible Library series – the historical publication devoted to Ukrainian-Bulgarian relations, My Sister Sofia. Everyone is welcome to the congress center of SSU, conference room on the second floor (9/1 Pokrovska St.).
The humanitarian initiative “Den’s Days in Sumy” is supported by the Sumy Regional Council, the City Council of Sumy, and Sumy State University. Lilia NAUMOVA, Head of Information and Analytical Department of the Sumy Regional Council says: “For printed publications connoisseurs it is clear that newspaper Den is unique, it is unlike any other media. It is not politicized; it is thorough and comprehensive in highlighting the important processes in the country and in the world. At the same time, the newspaper staff is creative with their ideas and views on different aspects of life. Just look at Den’s photo exhibit or Den’s Library! I like that the newspaper promotes Ukrainian books, drawing people to patriotism, to studying Ukraine and the history of our native land. The photo exhibitions are also interesting. They are very diverse, emotional, and moving. Seeing the photo Beside a Friend’s Grave by Anastasia Ivanova, which won the Audience Award at the Photo Exhibition Den-2016, I was in tears myself... I wish that the team continue to strive for new achievements and projects that will be interesting, sincere, and necessary for Ukrainians.” Of course, this would have been a difficult task without the effective support of the newspaper’s readers and partners.
Olena KOROL, pro-rector of SSU adds: “Not only newspaper Den is a daily national publication, which in itself is a tremendous feat, it has launched a number of important and useful projects, united by a common goal – the creation of Ukrainian intellectual space and the construction of our true identity. Every issue, every project helps us to understand ourselves, our role in the world as a nation state – not only in historical perspective, but in the modern one as well. Also, Den is a perfect moderator for the dialog between different parts of Ukraine.
“In November 2013, the first Den’s Days were held in Sumy, and they included presentations of the photo exhibition and of the Den’s Library books; there also was an unforgettable meeting with the editor-in-chief Larysa Ivshyna. Then Ivshyna said that modern Europe has emerged as a union of cities. And the nationwide discovery of each other – that is what will be extremely necessary on our way back to the European house. This mission is successfully carried out by Den’s International Photo Exhibition, which takes place for the 18th time, being a ‘Family Album of Ukraine’ that records the most important moments of our and our country’s growth and formation.
“We are extremely pleased that 2017 will begin with Den’s exhibition and with Den’s visit to the university; that our students, faculty, staff, and citizens will be able to see that which made us, Ukrainians, happy, inspired, and sad in the past 2016 year. We in Sumy State University are utterly happy to have become a partner of the 18th Den’s International Photo Exhibition and we unanimously decided to award the photo Cat-Therapy by Oleksii Palii with a gift.
“We know that 2016 was also the anniversary year for Den, being the 20th year of operation, and this year marks Larysa Ivshyna’s anniversary as the editor-in-chief. We wish her and the newspaper success and longevity, and we are always looking forward for a chance to meet!”
