This traditional exhibit has been annually organized in Lviv by the National League of Ukrainian Artists. This year the salon displays works by about 200 artists. Incidentally, only Lviv oblast-based league members are allowed to take part in it. Each of them could submit one or two items.
The salon occupies the whole third floor of the Palace of Arts. But what really impresses is not only the size, but also the content. In addition to pictures, the exhibit displays stone, wood, glass, ceramic, and metal sculptures, as well as batik, weaving, leather items, etc.
The artists have chosen various themes. You can see a lot of mountainous landscapes, still lifes, streets and everyday scenes in Lviv and other cities, and portraits of people. The ongoing Russian-Ukrainian war has also found a response in the artists’ hearts. For example, artist Vasyl Kuzmych has honored ATO heroes and devoted his largest work to the Katyn events. “I depicted the Smolensk tragedy on top – the crash of the airplane that carried Polish high officials to honor the victims of the Katyn executions. At the bottom, there is a historical reference about the way Polish army servicemen died. These things are intertwined. The work is titled D?j? vu,” he says.
“Spring Salon” is a contest-cum-exhibit. Therefore, as soon as March 31, the jury will choose the authors of the best portrait, landscape, sculpture, ceramic item, etc.
