December 9 through 18 the Mystetsky Arsenal will host the Grand Antiquities Salon, a project that will present masterpieces of the world art, unique museum and gallery collections, and historical rarities.
It is the consecutive second year that the salon is presenting in the program “Guest Museum” Ukraine’s most interesting museum collections, including the Lviv Museum of History and Lviv National Gallery of Arts.
Together they created the project “An arsenal in the Arsenal.” Following Warsaw, Krakow, and Vienna, Kyiv will see for the first time the unique ancient armament and battle painting of 15th-18th centuries.
The exposition’s gem is the equipment of Winged Hussars, the main attacking force of Rzeczpospolita’s army in 17th-18th centuries.
However, today the items in the exhibit are no means of destruction anymore, but unique works of art. Besides, Ukraine’s 11 museums and nearly 20 private collectors joined their efforts to present within one project’s framework the works of Viktor Zaretsky, a significant artist of the 20th century, who took part in the dissident movement in the 1960s.
A universal artist and aesthete, he was creating in his own manner of “metaphorical visions,” which combines European secession with the Ukrainian tradition.
The exhibit will also include the launch of the 600-page album The Scales of Viktor Zaretsky’s Destiny, compiled by Olesia Avramenko, reportedly by the press service of the Mystetsky Arsenal.
