The “Celebration of Wine and Cheese” coincided with celebrations devoted to the 70th anniversary of the legendary Beatle John Lennon. Both events took place in the inner court of the Lviv city hall.

According to Ilko Lemko, the president of The Beatles fan club, Lviv chapter, the singers and the bands performed songs written by Lennon.

The artists, among whom are Green Silence, The Beatlevs, Cadilac, Vasyl Vasyltsiv, Let It Blues, Chervone, Misty Gates, Viktoria, Black Jack, Maria and Ilko Lemkos, and Sviatoslav Sinchuk, entertained both beatlemaniacs and cheese and wine admirers.

“Four centuries ago the climate is Lviv was so warm that the vineyards on the south hills of the Tall Castle, Lychakiv and later on the hills of Keizerwilde up to the Vynnyks, gave Lviv citizens about 200 barrels of wine,” Lemko said.

On top of that, the Leopolitans enjoyed sophisticated Italian, Cretan, Spanish and Hungarian wine, as Lviv used to be a large trade center.

At the fair all the visitors could evaluate the 2008 harvest of a wine by “The Brethren of the Lviv Winemakers,” which was specially made for the occasion, and taste the achievements of the cheese maker Bernard Willem (Belgium), who has his own farm near Sudova Vyshnia.
