“I Draw Euro-2012” International Children’s Drawing Competition has concluded in the Ukrainian capital. The competition is regularly held by Kyiv Municipal Teachers’ House and Suputnyk Travel Company to encourage artistic creativity of children from all over Ukraine; it focuses on a new nationally relevant topic every year. Talented children from Russia and the Czech Republic have expressed a desire to participate, too, over the recent years.
This year’s competition was dedicated to the recently held European football championship. The children’s artworks were first exhibited in the gallery at the Kyiv Municipal Teachers’ House from May through July, and then on July 28 the drawings were moved to the Museum of Modern Art of Ukraine, one of the country’s best art institutions. There were 147 works overall presented by young artists and students of specialized art studios.
The museum, in common with many of its counterparts all over the globe, considers art education of preschoolers and schoolchildren to be a strategically important mission and furthers it through housing the Cornflower dance studio and offering museum tours for children. “Our institution should be a place where children feel cozy, comfortable and relaxed, and are able to acquire knowledge and create art,” the museum’s founder Serhii Tsiupko has said.
Everybody who had visited the Museum of Modern Art of Ukraine over the past month participated in a secret ballot which concluded on August 28 with the exhibition’s organizers announcing the 10 best drawings determined by the vote. The first place was awarded to 16-year-old Maksym Barna’s The Road to Recognition (advised by Yana Brukhno), 13-year-old Anastasia Repnianska won the second place with her Euro-2012 (advised by Olha Voitenko of the Palette art studio), and the third place went to The Muse of the Euro by 11-year-old Lilia Norets (advised by Yana Brukhno). All winners received gifts and prizes.
