According to the artist, she became fascinated with Heorhii Bulashev’s book The Ukrainian People in their Legends, Religious Views and Beliefs. Ukrainian Folk Ideas and Beliefs about the Creation of the World (1909). The book contains short stories reflecting popular beliefs and demonstrating the merging of heathenism and Christianity. The popular interpretation of Biblical stories and the cosmogonic myths, intertwining beliefs of every description, underlie a series of carpets and patchwork quilts executed in a mixed technique (embroidery and collage). The exhibits include seven works by the artist, as well as a series of painted chests.

Anastasia Podervianska (b. 1978) is a Kyiv-based artist. Member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine since 2002. Her works can be seen at Eurolab and the Museum of Modern Art of Ukraine, as well as in private collections in Ukraine, Poland, Germany, Macedonia, and the US.

The exhibit at the Dymchuk Gallery will be open through March 14.
