Exhibition as a “snapshot of the art scene”

National exhibition celebrating Ukraine’s Independence Day is underway at the Central House of Artist
28 August, 2013 - 15:42

Organizers of the Young Nation’s Young Art event have presented works of several hundred talented creators to residents and guests of Kyiv! The exhibitors include artists who have already established themselves as brilliantly creative individuals, including Natalia Korf-Ivaniuk from Pyriatyn, winner of Painting-2013 Triennale; Olha Koval, Yehor and Mykyta Zihura from Kyiv, Yehen Yehorov from Kharkiv, and Maryna Yandolenko from Odesa. Their art pieces display their visions of the nation’s independence and the art’s situation in it.

“Our visitors will be able to enjoy the works of nearly 300 painters, sculptors, and photographers. We have worked hard to make the exhibition an extraordinary event and free it from the ‘clutches’ of formalism and banality. For example, the opening ceremony involved performance Practicing the Creative Process Outside the Mainstream. Birth of a Symbol. Airship. Flight, the event’s organizer, deputy chairman of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine Ihor Voloshchuk commented to The Day. “The visitors saw this art piece being created on that day, which will become the prize to the lucky winner of the raffle held among the visitors on the closing day of the exhibition.”

OLHA KOVAL’S ENERGY FLOWS DIPTYCH

“This exhibition’s main interest is in its overall high artistic level. It focuses on mapping the current state of Ukrainian art. The visitor gets to see works by 230 representatives of regional art schools, featuring their individual worldviews and coloring techniques,” the art critic Olha Lazar noted. “You can say that it represents an expanded ‘snapshot’ of our modern art scene.”

The exhibition’s organizers told us that every art piece was chosen through a competition. The jury paid attention primarily to the “clarity of artistic idea exposition,” avoiding to set limit to philosophical or thematic preferences of the artists. Therefore, the visitors to the Young Nation’s Young Art exhibition can see 230 original views on art and the nation presented by 230 authors.

The exhibition is open for visitors through August 30.
