The Kyivan marathon Chestnut Run brings together thousands of Ukrainians every year. Some come there to test their strength, some look for fun, and some again just run to win. To participate in the race, one had to register and get a special number and participant’s bracelet. This year, the cost of registration stood at 100 hryvnias. All the proceeds will go to charitable purposes, namely to pay for equipment for the Health Ministry’s Center for Pediatric Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery. By the way, the marathon’s organizers, the Kyiv City State Administration and the Chestnut Run Charitable Foundation, have raised over 2 million hryvnias for children over its 23-year-long history.
This year’s race attracted over 6,000 participants. However, according to the organizing committee, the exact figure will be made known only at a special press conference, to be held at the end of the first week of June. Let us recall that the most massive race was held in 2010 with 15,100 participants, allowing it to be listed by the Ukrainian Book of Records as “the most massive sports charity event ever.”
As usual, Den’s team took the start in the charity marathon as well. This year, our publication was represented by office assistant Hanna Kniazhanska, economy commentator Vitalii Kniazhansky, political reporter Dmytro Kryvtsun and international reporter Ihor Samokysh. Just as on previous occasions, the 75-year-old Kniazhansky finished as the first in our team, benefiting from his 40 years of running experience.
