The Ukrainian military saw Yasha on a street in Kramatorsk, Donetsk oblast. The hawk’s right wing was injured, and the bird was weak in general, but it was not afraid of people. The soldiers took the bird to the ATO headquarters, where it lived for a few days and was then carried to Kyiv. Yasha has no fear of people and domestic animals, has a good appetite, and is quite sociable. So, immediately after a visit to a Kyiv ornithologist, the hawk traveled to its new – temporary – place of residence: the Wildlife Rehabilitation Center at the Galician National Nature Park. It is the center’s staff who posted Yasha’s story and photos on a social networking site. They thanked all the concerned people who never leave injured animals unattended but try to come to their rescue. But the point is that the best help to an animal is to hand it over to specialists. And it is no wonder that the Ukrainian military saved a bird. This war shows that animals always feel good beside our soldiers. They will be well-fed, taken care of, and saved. Some of the “ATO animals” have found a new residence after their rescuers were demobilized – the military took them to their home towns.
