Kyiv will host Independent Exhibit from August, 23 till September, 11. About 80 artists will participate. The exhibit will be located on the first floor of Mystetsky Arsenal and the total area is 10,000 square meters. The visitors will have a complete impression of the Ukrainian contemporary art with its particular types, genres and technologies. Independent is the first large-scale attempt to show the phenomenon of the Ukrainian contemporary art which was born together with new [independent. – Ed.] Ukraine. The pro-ject will raise a question about creation of the Ukrainian contemporary art full museum collection – in fact, it have not been done for 20 years of independence. Hopefully, this project will boost its creation. Independent exposition will be based on certain blocks, each of which will describe phenomena in the Ukrainian contemporary art that appeared in the last 20 years when the Ukrainian artists were searching for a new visual language, problems and identity.
Reality vs. Phantasm is peculiar to the Ukrainian contemporary art in which reality is chimerical, and it is reflected with the ulterior effect or undertone.
Dialogue with a Monitor – is an influence on creative thinking of the artists, when stable art space had to accept new media realities of the world, which were reflected in video and photo performances and, actually, in the painting.
Social View / Political Reagent is a reflection of important social and political realities, which the artists reacted to back in 1991-2011.
History and Myth presents new mythologies and reconsidered history.
Beyond the Border shows bright phenomena which are beyond usual art system.
