“I WAS THINKING ONLY ABOUT YOU ALL THIS TIME!” / Photo by Ruslan KANIUKA, The Day

On Feb. 10–18, 2009, the best photos of The Day’s 10th International Photo Contest were temporarily on display in the Picture Gallery of the Kyiv Polytechnical Institute (KPI). The newspaper and its editor in chief Larysa Ivshyna met for the first time with the KPI students.

Traditionally, we tried to find out which photo struck a cord with the exhibit’s visitors. Over 200 responses were received within these eight days. Practically no work remained unnoticed by the students. And the names of the winners in the Audience Prize category were no surprise to us. The photos that the students selected also evoked admiration among the visitors’ of our photo contest in the Ukrainian Home.

So, according to the results of the voting the first place went to the photo “I was Thinking Only About You All This Time!” by The Day’s photojournalist Ruslan Kaniuka. The second prize went to Yurii Kalyniak’s nostalgic photograph “Morning in the Countryside.” The third place was shared by Yevhen Kazykin with his “In the Hip-Hop Style” and photo character “Mower” by Oleksandr Klyment. These photos earned an equal number of votes.

The KPI students also cast their votes for the works “Two Lonely Natures Have Met” by Nadia Nikolaieva, “Son Sonych” by Oleh Kazykin, and “She Has Called” by The Day’s photojournalist Kostiantyn Hryshyn.

These and other photos that were submitted to The Day’s photo contest can be accessed at our website www.day.kiev.ua along with the conditions for participation in our contest. We are looking forward to photos from you!
