Lviv National Art Gallery hosts the exhibition entitled “Museums are my life.” It is dedicated to the 90th birth anniversary of Borys Voznytsky, who died on May 23, 2012.
Borys Voznytsky was a Ukrainian art historian, director of Lviv Art Gallery, member the Ukrainian Academy of Arts, Hero of Ukraine (2005), winner of Shevchenko National Prize (1990), Honored Worker of Culture of Ukraine and Poland, president of the Ukrainian National Committee at International Council of Museums (ICOM), and Doctor honoris causa. He was famous for having restored castles and museums of Lviv region. In particular, thanks to him, Olesko, Pidhirtsi, Zolochiv, and Svirzh castles were rebuilt and opened to tourists. He also thoroughly researched the work of Johann Georg Pinsel. His entire life was dedicated to work.
The idea of the exhibition was brought to life by an artist Serhii Petliuk. He divided the display across sections, which tell about the various stages in Voznytsky’s life: the years of expeditions, the struggle for castles, the period of exhibitions and science.
The gallery halls display many photographs and portraits of Borys Voznytsky. There are also restored historical artifacts, which he found in abandoned churches and castles across Ukraine. Also, individual pieces are accompanied by anecdotes of how Voznytsky came across them.
