A new stage opens in Kyiv

18 January, 2016 - 17:00
HALYNA DZHYKAIEVA FROM SIMFEROPOL, DIRECTOR, ACTRESS, ARTISTIC DIRECTOR OF THE ART CENTER “KARMAN,” HAD TO FLEE FROM CRIMEA BECAUSE OF THE PRESSURE FROM THE RUSSIAN FSB

Halyna Dzhykaieva, a renowned Crimean actress, played the role of a “pro-Russian militia” member. The play was staged by a young, talented director Anton Romanov, her compatriot, who is currently also a migrant from the Crimean peninsula. A documentary spectacle was based on the play by Dan and Yana Humenny I Bought a Bicycle for My Daughter Masha. The text is based on an interview with a militiaman from Donetsk, whom a theater actress accidentally met at the center of Kyiv.

“I am scared by a lot of similarities, because this militiaman is as much a human being as we are,” director Anton Romanov expressed his opinion. “We tend to demonize the enemy, but when we meet them face to face we find out that they are average people with their problems, who have families... but on the other hand, I cannot accept as a normal the type of people who are ready to kill other people following any idea.”

“We want the voices of those whom people do not want to hear to be heard from independent theatrical stages. And after this a discussion should take place – how to hear the people of Donbas and how to establish a dialog,” says Halyna Dzhykaieva.

The work process of PostPlayTheater (address: 31 Nyzhnioyurkivska St.) will be organized on the principle of cooperation and collaboration within the profession with the goal to create creative tandems (director- actor drama laboratories).

The next show of solo play The Militiamen will be held on January 25.
