New “Stars of Italy”

National Opera of Ukraine soloists Anzhelina Shvachka and Serhii Mahera win high awards

On the occasion of Europe Day in Ukraine and the 70th anniversary of the Italian Republic, Kyiv has seen a joint art project, “Gala Europa,” under the auspices of the Italian Embassy, the Italian Institute of Culture in Ukraine, and the National Opera management. The concert featured performers from the two countries: Luciano Ganci (tenor), Lilia Hrevtsova (soprano), Gaetano di Bacco (saxophone), Valentyn Dytiuk (tenor), Serhii Mahera (bass), Anzhelina Shvachka (mezzo soprano, pictured), the National Opera’s choir and symphony orchestra conducted by Mykola Diadiura.

The program comprised masterpieces by such classics as Mozart, Beethoven, Rossini, Berlioz, Verdi, Puccini, Mascagni, and Revutsky, as well as premiere performance of works by Franz Waxman, Pedro Iturralde, and Roberto Molinelli.

The soiree concluded with a pleasant surprise: National Opera of Ukraine soloists Anzhelina Shvachka and Serhii Mahera were awarded Star of Italy orders for a major personal contribution to the popularization of Italian culture and special merits in the development of friendly relations and cooperation between our states. On behalf of the president of Italy, Fabrizio Romano, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Italian Republic to Ukraine, presented the singers with orders.
