London’s Bertha DocHouse cinema is staging the British premiere of the documentary film Slovo House, the State Committee for Cinema press service reports. “The UK’s first cinema dedicated solely to documentary has chosen Slovo House to be shown as part of Sunday Sessions – a series that showcases inspiring films from auteurs, artists, and adventurers. The screening will be followed by a talk with Dr. Uilleam Blacker, one of the best British lecturers on the theory of Ukrainian culture and literature,” the report says.

The screening will be presented in partnership with the Ukrainian Institute London. “We are very glad that the British public will have an opportunity to see this film. This documentary thriller about the 1930s’ ‘executed Renaissance’ uncovers the lost strata on Ukrainian cultural history, helps understand the link between the concurrent campaigns of terror against Ukraine launched by the Stalin regime, and lays down a bridge to the present day full of debates on creating a new Ukrainian identity,” said Marina PESENTI, director of the Ukrainian Institute London.

The film, directed by Taras Tomenko, produced by Yulia Cherniavska and Oleh Shcherbyna, and written by Liubov Yakymchuk and Taras Tomenko, was made by Fresh Production Group in partnership with the State Committee for Cinema, the Ministry of Information Policies, the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Education and Science, and the Verkhovna Rada Committee for the Freedom of Speech.
