Where there is no law, but every man does what is right in his own eyes, there is the least of real liberty

An exhibition is now open in the capital of Ukraine. It is an exhibition of works by Italian philosopher and artist Antonio Meneghetti (the works he created inspired by the nature of Ukraine), by the most paid Ukrainian artist Anatolii Kryvolap, and by the representative of Ukrainian neo-baroque Oleh Tistol. This art project is a reaction of Ukrainian artistic circles to processes that take place in modern art. Today there is the active search for new means of expression in fine arts – the kind that would appeal directly to the audience and would require their participation in the creation of artistic images. “Landscape of the 21st Century” eloquently demonstrates that Ukraine is also a territory of manifestation of current global trends.

In works by Meneghetti, Kryvolap, and Tistol – representatives of absolutely different cultural traditions, landscape appears in a new light, revealing its renewed nature, and the image, resembling an irresistible flow, reflects the dynamics of the art. Each artist after having opened their own style in painting rejects the, so-called, closed forms that are limited to themselves, in favor of the forces released by the act of creation.

“I understand painting (landscape for me is almost the identical concept) as a continuation of one of the manifestations of ontological principles, the continuation of the essence of the human life core,” says MENEGHETTI.

KRYVOLAP notes that, although, today you can hear that landscape as a genre has become obsolete, it is not true. “Landscape that makes you feel an emotion, force, or a state will never become obsolete. For example, at the present moment I am trying to decode the Ukrainian Carpathians, to show them with the help of color in a way that their energy, core, and aura could be felt. I haven’t succeeded yet. But when I’ll manage to do this everybody will be able to feel it physically. No matter what century you live in or will live in, you will feel it,” thinks the artist.

Thus, the art project “Landscape of the 21st Century” is not associated with the experience of “naturalistic reproduction,” photography, and is free from the ideology of social and cultural issues. What’s most important, there is no post modern paradigm in there. In search of new sincerity artist turns his eye to where the art is not an object for sale any more, but it inspires the viewer to the open communication with the world of art.

Visitors can see canvases by Meneghetti, Kryvolap, and Tistol in the Gallery “OntoArteGaleria” till the end of January. In addition, the organizers promised to soon present a catalogue of the art project.

After the exhibition of the art project “Landscape of the 21st Century” will be finished in Ukraine, it will be presented in Great Britain and the United States. Besides, within the framework of this project there will be held a contest for young and talented landscape painters “New Ukrainian Landscape.” The winners will be selected by the three masters involved in the project.
