Chernivtsi is going to receive 18 young authors from Germany, Austria, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Romania, Moldova, and Ukraine for a debate on the role of poetry, translation, and intercultural communication. The forum will result in joint readings on September 9 and 10, meridiancz.com reports.
“The spice of this year’s festival is that it focuses on young European poetry. We will hold poetical recitals, as well as workshops, film shows, and two musical events on this topic. Most of the Meridian Czernowitz participants are young poets and poetesses. Also participating in the form will be 12 under-30 authors from various regions of our country and the Ukraine-controlled cities of the Donbas. In addition to them, Chernivtsi will see such poetry gurus as Eugen Gomringer, Dmytro Pavlychko, and Ivan Malkovych,” festival director Yevhenia LOPATA says.
The fest participants will hold a debate on conflicts of memory and ways to resolve them. September 9 will see the nationwide premiere of Serhii Zhadan’s novel The Boarding School and the rap-presentation of Yurii Izdryk’s poetic collection Cigarettes.
Also on the forum’s program is electronic music, the showing of short films – winners of the International Zebra Poetry Film Festival and of Amputation, a film by Igor Pomerantsev and Lidia Starodubtseva on the tragic consequences of the war in eastern Ukraine.
