This is a popular science film about the origins, establishment, and use of Ukrainian music instruments (Director: Oleh Volodkevych, scriptwriter: Bohdan Zholdak, cameraman: Yurii Meshcheriakov). The website i-pro.kiev.ua reminds that on November 23, 2015 the State Agency of Ukraine for Cinema signed a contract with the company-producer of the film on granting governmental funding totaling 400,000 hryvnias. The first filming took place in the rehearsal hall of the National Orchestra of Folk Instruments of Ukraine. One of the heroes of the film is the art director of the famous ensemble, well-known conductor Viktor Hutsal, who held an open rehearsal of the world’s only orchestra, which consists of 70 folk instruments, including such ancient ones as kuvytsia, zozulia, telenka, etc.
According to the director, the philosophy of Ukrainian mentality will be conveyed in the film through the transformation of the ethnic instruments of our people and the sounding of modern music avant-garde.
“We are carrying out an experiment: specialists will recreate some of the instruments according to authentic technologies and show their new sound in new computer arrangement, also combining the original sounds with modern music avant-garde,” director Oleh VOLODKEVYCH said.
The authors note that the topic and historical facts mentioned in the film Primary Avant-Garde may become the first in-depth research about the Ukrainian folk music instruments in the audio-visual sphere. The release of the film is planned for spring.
