Paintings presented at the exhibition range in style from plane-decorative to expressive texture. All art works have in common the leaning towards logic generalization, conciseness, conceptual character, expressive lines, and natural organic colors.
Leonid Kozlov is not only an artist, he is also a sculptor. The artist has been working with sculptures, mostly with bronze images of tender ballerinas, for over 40 years now. The artist also works with graphics. Art critics see in Kozlov’s works abstract traditions of modernism with post-modern conceptual load.
“Each painting causes not only purely artistic associations, but also very real and vast ones, among which nature, perhaps, has the central place. ‘Pure abstraction’ is a quite relative phenomenon these days,” thinks art critic Halyna SKLIARENKO. “In Kozlov’s abstract paintings you can easily see some trace of the real world – skyline, natural colors, forms and shapes.”
Director of the art gallery “Mystetska Zbirka” Maksym VOLOSHYN adds: “It is much more difficult to assess the level of the author’s skill in abstraction than in, for example, realistic painting. Abstractions of Kozlov cause no doubt. This is a high-quality product both in terms of technique and in conceptual meaning.”
Visitors of the gallery can see the works of the artist until November 18.
