The exhibition is called “The Chest in the Ukrainian Family’s Everyday Life.” According to its curator Liudmyla Bilous, the museum’s holdings include 23 chests made from the 18th to the early 21st century in central, northern, southern, and western regions of Ukraine, which are decorated with polychrome paintings and carvings.

“The chest played an important role in the Ukrainian family’s life, as it occupied a prominent place in the interior of the home, was its ornament, an indicator of the family’s prosperity, a required attribute of the wedding ceremony. Chests were passed down from generation to generation, preserving ancestral memories, traditions, family warmth,” we heard from the museum’s director general Adriana Vialets.

In addition to chests, the exhibition features also furnishings and household items: carpets, a cupboard, icon-cases, towels, pieces of cloth, icons, ceramic and wooden tableware, clothes, jewelry – everything that surrounded a person in everyday life and was stored in chests...

The exhibition will run until February 1.
