Ivan Franko, Lesia Ukrainka, Serhii Nihoyan, Andrei Sheptytsky, Georgy Gongadze – a total of 12 sculptural portraits of Ukrainian history’s prominent figures was presented at the exhibition entitled “I      see by touching: great Ukrainians.” By touching the art, people with low vision can get the idea how the outstanding political and public figures looked. The audio information on every figure is played back nearby; the stories are read by Ukrainian musicians, among them Jamala and Sviatoslav Vakarchuk. They are also available in Braille script.

The project is presented by the Department for Culture, Nationalities, and Religions of Lviv Oblast State Administration and the Lviv Rotaract Club. Khrystyna Berehovska and Vasyl Odrekhivsky are project managers. “Imagine prominent Ukrainian cultural figures from different time periods enter the contemporary context, destroying cliches: they are vibrant, provocative, not at all like what we are used to seeing them. The bright colors also aspire to break through the barrier of blindness between a person and the world that surrounds them,” the organizers describe the project.

The exhibition will be open at the Lviv Palace of Arts up to November 8. Eventually, the art is planned to be presented in other cities of Ukraine.
