VICTORIA GRES: WE HAVE TO MEET MORE OFTEN. AND LIKE MEN

30 January, 2001 - 00:00

As we know, nothing stands in place; everything develops. This is especially apparent to one and all with the semiannual (for spring-summer and autumn-winter seasons) of the top Ukrainian designers (who came to this rhythm also not at once, and today not everybody adheres to it). But now it appears that apart from this, between the seasons some of Ukraine’s pacesetters of sartorial vogue also manage to make small collections or remarks.

Among the designers who simply cannot stand to be out of the public eye for six months is Victoria Gres. Her boutique every month and a half or two months holds some small presentation of compact collections “on a given topic” always selected at random, by inspiration. Say, she plans to devote her next collection, timed to coincide with her birthday, to batik and decorative textiles. And her recent and still freshest collection was called the Light Aroma of a Rose, and the scent really was present, literally, in the invitation tickets, into which the aromatic plants were put, and conveyed by artistic means in the very collection of evening garments traditional for Ms. Gres: dresses, blouses, and trousers that matched each other perfectly in different combinations. The models were trimmed with lace, paillettes, embroidery, ribbons, tambour embroidery, and complemented with decorations of mountain crystal, natural semi- gems, Czech glass. And the main accessory being the beautiful artificial roses.

This presentation, apart from everything else, was also a kind of announcement from the Victoria Gres House of Fashion trumpeting the inauguration of the line of men’s wear and as an appetizer showed four male models who evoked indubitable interest of the public and media. Meanwhile, Victoria promised to present her complete men’s collection very soon, during the spring-summer 2001 season show.
