The organizers of this landscape design competition are promising a real wonder: they say we will see, for the first time in Ukraine, 30 outdoor landscape compositions. There will also be landscape installations, natural art objects, and a contest of Japanese motifs in mini-gardens – because 2017 has been declared Year of Japan in Ukraine. The competition is supported by the Embassy of Japan.
Designers, artists, and florists from all the nooks of Ukraine will gather at the National Mykola Hryshko Botanical Garden to implement their boldest ideas. The winner’s work will be set up later at the Odesa Botanical Garden.
Landscape Spring jurors are noting a high level of participants. About 150 projects have been offered for the competition. Incidentally, botanical garden employees confess they have been going to implement the idea of a Japanese garden on their territory for 10 years or so.
“I took part in assessing the projects and saw a very high level,” says Mykola SHUMYK, deputy director of the National Mykola Hryshko Botanical Garden for landscape construction. “We intend to put up gardens of the world on our territory, and the competition area fits in very well with some of our Oriental – Korean and Tibetan – gardens. We hope we’ll manage to do this, and the competition will turn into a regular exhibit.”
The botanical garden already begins to carry out the competitors’ projects. Children will also participate in Landscape Spring. They are invited to send their sketches of... scarecrows to [email protected] until April 15. Maia DAVYDOVA, designer, author of the Landscape Games program and organizer of the Fairytale Scarecrow competition, explains: “We will hold, for the first time, a competition where children will be able to show their landscape-related skills. It is Fairytale Scarecrow: children will compete in the ability to create the funniest element of landscape design. The scarecrows will personify fairytale characters.”
Competition initiators are sure this event will reveal new brilliant landscape design masters for Ukraine and the entire world.
