The young Kyiv artist named her exhibition the “Personal Correspondence.” In her works, the painter explores the epistolary culture, almost extinct today, and the phenomenon of the postcard as a mail document. Intimate experiences and mostly naive style of text constructs placed usually on the back of such documents are conveyed in a lively visual language, and although we do not see the texts themselves, the works induce a certain catharsis with the imaginary reader of these letters. This exhibition can be seen as a continuation of the “Letter to Nowhere” series, presented by the master in 2014.
“The folds of paper reveal lines which, one after another, turn into letters. The letters form into words, and my thoughts take on visual form. They begin to live by themselves. They are purply silent or pinkly laugh, and I am unable to control them anymore... The essence of their existence supports their birth. And their future ceases to depend on me... I send a letter to nowhere, hoping that someone will open it,” Rashtanova said.
