Twelve years ago suicide bombers on two hijacked planes attacked the World Trade Center towers in New York and the Pentagon in Washington. The third plane, where the crew and passengers tried to neutralize the terrorists, fell in Pennsylvania. On September 11 at 8:49 a.m. – the time when the tragedy happened, America commemorated the victims of the tragedy with a moment of silence.
This day is recorded in history under the short name of 9/11 [September 11. – Ed.]. It is officially observed as the day of the civil service and memory. People in many US cities, even those that have been not affected by the attacks directly, commemorate the victims of the tragedy.
In California, thousands of people ran a marathon to raise funds for charities that help the families of those killed in the attacks. Each participant of 8-kilometer and 16-kilometer marathon left a flag in memory of 2,996 people who died in the tragedy.
In Dallas, Texas firefighters and police officers honored the events of September 11. They also climbed stairs to the top of the local skyscraper in memory of 412 firefighters, policemen, and doctors, who died rescuing people from the burning twin towers.
In the state of Wisconsin hundreds of people came to the tallest building in the city to climb the stairs equivalent to 110 floors – that’s the number of floors in twin towers, from which people tried to escape on the tragic day.
A pear tree was planted on the site of the Twin Towers in New York to mark the anniversary of the terrorist attacks. This tree was rescued from the wreckage of the skyscrapers 12 years ago and was kept alive for several years. Now this pear tree became a symbol of rebirth.
As was reported recently, Americans demand a new investigation into the tragedy of 9/11. In fact, it is required by the project “Rethink 9/11.” The organization “Architects and Engineers for 9/11 Truth” (about 2,000 specialists) casts doubt on the official version of the collapse of three towers – First and Second Towers rammed through by the hijacked planes, and especially the Building 7, which collapsed about five hours after the first two. Advertising of the petition demanding a new investigation has already appeared in Times Square. It has been signed by 7,000 people. Activists filed the petition to the mayor’s office of New York.
This is not the first attempt to present an alternative perspective on the events of 9/11. Investigation of the National Institute of Standards and Technology, which lasted for three years, concluded that the collapse of the buildings was caused by uncontrolled fires.
