Den’s Initiatives Charity will visit the Donbas once again on December 11-13, continuing our long-term campaign “Bringing Den to eastern Ukraine.” To be more specific, Den’s journalists will join the Music Battalion Art Association and the Intercession of the Holy Virgin Charitable Foundation and, sponsored by Kyiv companies Aquavita and Aquaservice, come to Kramatorsk, Artemivsk, and Sievierodonetsk on these days to present there their books I, an Eyewitness. Notes from the Occupied Luhansk; Catastrophe and Triumph. The Stories of Ukrainian Heroes; and “Trap,” or A Case without a Statute of Limitations. The first book, authored by Valentyn Torba, deals with dramatic events that unfolded in his hometown of Luhansk, namely the Russian occupation of the Donbas, brazen provocations of the Russian special services and the origins of the conflict. Maria Semenchenko’s book, the second in our list, tells the stories of Ukrainian soldiers who defend our country. The third, compiled by Ivan Kapsamun, reveals the origins of the clan-oligarchic system in Ukraine, and in particular the landmark tragedy of Georgy Gongadze’s murder, which is still unsolved, while its chief instigator has not been punished. All these publications make up a triptych, which answers questions about the origins of the catastrophe which Russia has unleashed on Ukraine. Unfortunately, not only in the Donbas, but elsewhere in Ukraine as well, people who have done in-depth research on this topic are few and far between. After all, it was since the mid-1990s that the abovementioned clan-oligarchic system, taking care of its own interests rather than those of the nation, was weakening internal defense of the nation and giving the aggressor a free hand. It was the aggressor that used the whole arsenal of hybrid war tactics for occupation of Ukrainian territory.
In addition to the presentation of books on the war in the Donbas, we will deliver a concert program for soldiers and civilians alike, which will involve Ukrainian bands Tin Sontsia (Kyiv) and Druzhe Muzyko (Odesa). Furthermore, Ukrainian symbols will be distributed among those present at our events.
Books by Den’s contributors will be donated to local libraries and schools, with the donation enabled by Vasyl Kryvobok, who serves as deputy president of Den’s Charitable Foundation and director of Ukrainian-American company Zoloti Vorota Ltd. The recipients will also get certificates for free subscription to Den for a month on the same occasion.
The events’ organization effort involves volunteers of the Intercession of the Holy Virgin Charitable Foundation, Ukrainian patriotic organizations of the Donbas, Donetsk, and Luhansk military-civil administrations.
