The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Ukraine is preparing for evacuation of Ukrainians from Nepal. Almost 90 citizens of Ukraine who were likely to be in the earthquake zone have not been contacted yet. According to the MFA spokesman Yevhen Perebyinis, 89 out of 155 Ukrainian citizens likely to be in Nepal have not reported their status yet. “The MFA knows about 155 citizens of Ukraine who may be in Nepal now. Out of them, 89 have not been contacted yet,” Perebyinis tweeted. The MFA encourages all Ukrainian citizens who are in Nepal now to immediately report to their families, the Ukrainian embassy in Nepal or the MFA’s disaster hot line, stating their location and contacts to ensure evacuation. “We also call for information about other Ukrainian citizens who are in Nepal now,” the MFA statement reads. It also advises Ukrainians to strictly follow the instructions of local authorities and rescuers and avoid hiking in the mountains because of the avalanche danger. The gathering place for Ukrainian citizens in need of evacuation is our country’s consulate in Kathmandu. The BBC reports that the number of deaths due to the April 25 earthquake in Nepal has reached 3,326, according to the official count. Dozens of people were killed in neighboring China and India as well. The infrastructure of Nepal, including roads, and its public buildings have suffered significant damage. It is reported that the restoration of air communication with Nepal may take several days. The rescuers are making their way to the earthquake’s epicenter, and some roads have already been cleared.
