This is the first performance (within the framework of the project “Music Chronicle of Ukraine”), which was launched by the National Chamber Ensemble “Kyiv Soloists.” Apart from the ensemble the concert featured the winners of international competitions who are studying at Kyiv Lysenko Secondary Specialized Music Boarding School and at the conductor’s stand was Volodymyr Sirenko.
“It is symbolical that namely on the first day of summer, on Children’s Day, we are launching the art project ‘Music Chronicle of Ukraine,’” the artistic director of the ensemble “Kyiv Soloists” Oles YASKO stressed, “This project is a view on our country from different sides, the view on its culture, history, and people. We are launching ‘Music Chronicle of Ukraine’ together with the most talented children of the country who study in the school with an outstanding history. It is symbolical that children are performing European music at this concert. For we are paving way to Europe, our destiny is Europe, and Ukraine is Europe!”
Works by Antonio Vivaldi, Johann Sebastian Bach, Niccolo Paganini, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, etc. were performed in the program. The young soloists impressed the audience with their performance and confidence on stage. The velvet solo of saxophonist Kenta Igarashi in Aria by Eugene Bozza, clear and loud performance of two young violinists Daria Voliarchuk and Oleksandra Khmara, warm flute solo by Kateryna Movchan won applauses and flowers of the audience.
The performers included Den’s long-time friend, young violinist Varvara Vasylieva. Two years ago the girl became the first Ukrainian participant of the International Music Competition Bravo in Belgium. Varia’s parents needed to pay for their daughter’s trip to Belgium and back, so they were looking for funding and appealed to Den for support. Later we fulfilled another Varia’s dream – the girl visited Paris. Recently Varvara became one of heroines of our new Route No. 1 about indigo children – in this material the girl told about her new victories and plans for the future.
At the philharmonic society Varvara performed two parts of “Concert No. 2 for violin and orchestra” by Romantic-era composer Henryk Wieniawski. The rich in tones performance of the 11-year-old violinist was greeted by a storm of applause. Varia could hardly carry all the roses, peonies, and irises she was presented with on stage.
After the concert we talked to the violinist. “There are so many emotions that it is hard to convey them in a word. Every performance is a circulation of energy: I give the energy to the audience, and they give energy to me. I get great pleasure from this,” Varvara VASYLIEVA admitted, “I like to go on stage and play. It seems to me that this is what I strive for, what I like to do. In my opinion, this is the most important thing: to choose the profession you like. I felt the nervous trembling after the performance, when I was leaving the stage. And on the stage I feel free, as if it is my home and my calling.”
Young musicians support one another. The concert within the framework of “Kyiv Chronicle of Ukraine” finished with the penetrating Gypsy Airs by Pablo de Sarasate. Soloist and violinist Maria Kundyrenko was welcomed with applause and Bravo yells. Behind the scene Varia Vasylieva supported the musician who is her friend. “I was very worried for my friends,” Varia says. “And I’m thankful to the organizers of the concert, because I received a great experience and met many interesting people. The children who performed during the performance are amazing. I’m very glad that God helped me meet such people: sincere, the ones who do not hide their emotions, and who rejoice at other people successes.”
