The exhibit “The One Who Sees the Light” is presented by the master’s family in the Vasyl Pylypiuk’s Gallery at 3a, Stetska St., Lviv. It comprises more than 90 portraits and sketches by three dozen photographers from all over Ukraine, which immortalize the moments of life and work of Vasyl Pylypiuk (January 10, 1950 – November 18, 2017) – winner of the Taras Shevchenko National Prize, Honored Artist of Ukraine, the president of the Light and Shadow publishing company, editor-in-chief of the Light and Shadow photo magazine, the member of the National Union of Journalists, the member of the board of the National Society of Photo Artists of Ukraine, FIAP artist, professor at the Lviv National Academy of Arts.
The exhibit is dedicated to Pylypiuk’s 68th birthday, to avoid mentioning the sad date – 40 days after his death. “Photographs for the exhibition were collected during the month,” the artist’s son Volodymyr, a photographer as well, told The Day. “It was the idea of Volodymyr Dubas, the chairman of Society of Photo Artists of Lviv. And of course, we, the family, accepted this idea with great pleasure, because precisely on January 10, the day father was born, they wanted to commemorate his memory with a photo exhibition, which was going to reflect all the stages of his creative life.”
Bunches of red and yellow roses, big photo of the Master at the entrance, from which he looks directly into your eyes, a showcase with Vasyl’s honors and diplomas, books from the “Outstanding Figures” series (Mykola Kolessa, Volodymyr Ovsiichuk, Dmytro Pavlychko, Sviatoslav Hordynskyi, Borys Voznytskyi) illustrated by Pylypiuk, and photos, photos, photos...
Memorial evening began with a minute of silence. “The fact that we are here today affirms that the man in these photos has left his trace in life,” said the head of the Lviv Oblast State Administration Oleh SYNIUTKA.
The representatives of the city council also honored the artist. His colleagues – photo artists Volodymyr Dubas, Yosyp Marukhniak, Oleh Ohorodnyk, Oleksandr Mazurenko, et al. – came as well. Among the participants were violinist and teacher Artur Mykytka; rector of the Lviv National Academy of Arts Volodymyr Odrekhivskyi and its vice rector Roman Yatsiv; doctor of arts Orest Holubets; professor, head of the department of Radio and Television at the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv Vasyl Lyzanchuk, and others.
