The display, dedicated to the 25th anniversary of Ukraine’s independence, will be hosted at Andrei Sheptytsky National Museum. It will be composed of the photographic art by Vasyl Pylypiuk, Shevchenko Prize winner, Honored Artist of Ukraine, FIAP artist. For two weeks citizens and visitors of Lviv will be seeing a hundred highly artistic photos exhibited in the museum’s five halls.
He is renowned in the field of artistic photography for having created the “Light and Shadow” photographic gallery and presiding over the eponymous publishing company, for being the first in Ukraine to open the art photography department at Lviv National Academy of Arts, and for leading the Department of Photography at Kyiv National University of Culture and Arts.
His achievements for Ukrainian culture are unprecedented – he has published nearly a hundred volumes (!) of artistic albums that are impressive not only for their harmonious beauty, but also for the deep historical and philosophical understanding of our ancient and modern history. He convincingly presents a cultural slice of Ukrainian life, in particular the period of building a restored Ukrainian state. His creative legacy embodies the idea of unification: with power and talent, Pylypiuk created photo-art out of landscapes and historic sites in different parts of Ukraine. It is especially painful in the current circumstances to see the pictures from Crimea.
The trilogy This is My Ukraine – is an immortal anthem to Ukraine! The highly aesthetical rendition of 7 Natural Wonders of Ukraine (volume 1), National Parks of Ukraine (volume 2), and Renowned Architectural Monuments of Ukraine (volume 3) have managed to touch deeply the soul of Ukrainians, to convince us that the Creator has endowed us with the best land, which should never stop discovering anew. One cannot but remember Picturesque Ukraine, the work by our Prophet – Vasyl Pylypiuk, with his usual skill and extraordinary scrupulousness, pays tribute to him handed in two books: Shevchenko’s Dedication and Ukraine – Land of Taras.
The master has also launched the series “Figures,” which includes skillfully made books about original “beacons of Ukrainian culture and state” – such as Taras Shevchenko, Ivan Franko, Mykola Kolessa, Dmytro Pavlychko, Sviatoslav Hordynsky, Borys Voznytsky. The anniversary of Lesia Ukrainka is going to be celebrated by the photo-exploration “Ukrainian Saxifraga”; the 455th anniversary of Peresopnytsia Gospel will be marked by a book Dawn of Peresopnytsia Gospel.
