On March 18, the Diplomatic Academy of Ukraine hosted the 3d International Youth Forum “Globalization Challenges and Multilateral Diplomacy.” Held against the background of the Russian annexation of Crimea and continuing Russian aggression, this important and timely event was attended by about 200 people, including diplomats, government officials, academics, experts, and students.
According to organizers, the forum’s purpose is to serve as a platform for international youth cooperation, exchange of information and experience. In addition, its participants discussed the positioning of Ukraine in the world, as well as geopolitical and geo-economic challenges facing our country. The speakers focused in particular on development of modern Ukrainian diplomacy.
“This forum sees not only young students, but also our academics, teachers, veteran and serving diplomats coming together as peers. We specifically selected the participants so that both categories would be represented roughly equally, linking not only generations, but strategies and beliefs as well,” rector of the Diplomatic Academy Mykola Kulinych told The Day in a comment on the forum. He specifically noted The Day’s contribution, saying that this newspaper was not simply a focus of public opinion, but “a leader of it, a rallying point for the Ukrainian elite.”
The Day’s editor-in-chief Larysa Ivshyna (in the photo) spoke at the forum’s opening as well. She presented new books and initiatives of the periodical, and shared her impressions from recent events. “Diplomats’ attention to our newspaper has always encouraged me, because they are the most qualified readers one can dream about. It sets a high bar for us, worthy of being cleared,” Ivshyna stressed. “We are witnessing an unprecedented battle of growing intensity, over not just oil, gas, and other resources, but a place in history as well. Russia has long set a goal to push us out of the civilization space and take our place there.”
