Slovakia Supports Ukraine

26 September, 2000 - 00:00

Slovakia will not adopt decisions relating to natural gas, that “would harm the interests of Ukraine,” said Slovak Foreign Minister Eduard Kukan in a meeting with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Borys Tarasiuk in New York at the 55th UN General Assembly Monday before the last. “We value highly the results of the recent New York meeting between Ukrainian President Leonid Kuchma and Slovak Premier Mikulas Dzurinda,” the Slovak diplomat added. During the meeting of Leonid Kuchma with the Slovak Premier at the UN millennium summit held early September in New York, Mr. Dzurinda said that his country will not make decisions contrary to the interests of Ukraine. This primarily concerns Russia’s intentions to build a gas pipeline to Western Europe bypassing Ukraine.
