That life in this country also exists after the elections is testified to at least by the fact that, after numerous presidential rankings, polling organizations began to conduct other surveys of popularity. For example, the Elite- Profi rating studies center founded last year has identified ten ambassadors most open to Ukrainian society by analyzing publications in the most influential mass-circulation Kyiv and national Ukrainian newspapers (Holos Ukrayiny, Fakty i kommentarii, Segodnia, Den, Zerkalo nedeli, Ukrayina moloda, Nezavisimost, Kievskie Vedomosti, etc.). As the center’s expert Yuri Kovrov told The Day, the main criterion of this “openness” was the frequency of diplomats being quoted in the Ukrainian press.
On top of this ranking list came Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the USA in Ukraine Steven Pifer (a new newspaper, 2000, has recently carried the Elite-Profi press release on this action), while the newspaper Den (The Day) became the Ukrainian publication most preferred by foreign diplomats. As Mr. Kovrov noted, “ Den’s love of communicating with ambassadors seems to be mutual.”
