“We are a bride with a rich heritage”

Den prepares an incredible present, dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the publication, a chest of treasures
14 September, 2016 - 18:21

According to popular wisdom, “When the lady of the house is wise, her chest is always full.” Imagine the joy of the employees of Den newspaper, when they received a chest of treasures, dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the publication. The editor-in-chief of the newspaper Larysa Ivshyna reminds: “We always celebrate the new ring in our tree by moving up to the next stair.”

Ukrainians today need simple reasons for joy, to make it easier to overcome the challenges they are facing on a daily basis. And we want our box to become a source of joy like that. Hopefully, we will achieve this goal, because the content of our gift is outstanding. Above all, it includes 100 greeting cards, with 30 ones depicting the best photos from our photo contest, 25 caricatures by Anatolii Kazansky, 5 – by Viktor Bogorad, 15 top sketches from Den/The Day, and 15 pictures dedicated to Route No. 1 by our staff artist Anna Havryliuk, as well as 10 significant front pages of the newspaper.

Add here the “royal” pencil (featuring a crown and wishes from Larysa Ivshyna), an easel, and marigold seeds from Nahuievychi village. The last component of our box has a special meaning: the seeds were gathered in the Ivan Franko House-Museum in 2016, when Ukraine celebrated the 160th birth anniversary of the writer. The bag with the seeds features the inscription “What we sow will grow” – this is actually the slogan of the newspaper. Incidentally, our readers Andrii and Halyna Yatsenko noted that it is not without a reason that two anniversaries, Ivan Franko’s and ours coincided in time, for “the newspaper Den has managed to become the quality newspaper the model of which Ivan Franko outlined in his journalistic works.”

“We are a bride with rich heritage,” Larysa Ivshyna smiles, “We appreciate our predecessors, but also continue and modernize their traditions. Anatolii Kazansky, our favorite caricature artist, was an important support for me in the first day of my work in the newspaper. Den underwent frequent storms, because our journalists were lured by other employers. Many people left then, but Anatolii Kazansky stayed, although he received the most generous offers, but I saw that he believed in me and it gave me power.” The pencil in our box is another reminder about Anatolii Kazansky who was a master of the tool.

Den’s chest of treasures was created in several stages, because it is extremely hard to select the best things from what was created over the period of 20 years. “I really wanted the gift box to be really huge, so that we could fit there as many things as possible,” Yaroslava Yatchenko, the head of the Marketing Department said, “Besides, it was important to create a proper design for these treasures. Hopefully, we have succeeded in this, and the box will bring joy to people. Honestly, I would be happy to receive such a universal, stylish, and meaningful present.”

It is important that the project was implemented with the support of our friends: the Charitable Foundation in Support of the Newspaper Den’s Initiatives, in particular, Kyiv Council member Hanna Svyrydenko and the ADEF-UKRAINA Publishing House.

Incidentally, the idea came as a surprise for many employees of Den/The Day. Journalist of the Politics Department Valentyn Torba shared his impression from the gift box, “Big things start with something small. If the seeds are life-giving, they will give birth to a tree, a person, a state. No matter how much the occupants plunder the Ukrainian land, the nation has been revived, because our blood has a genetic memory code. Knowing one’s history means preserving this memory, so, preserving one’s family and nation. Den’s gift box is not just a set of accessories and greeting cards. It embodies the image of the mission Den has been carrying for 20 years.”

It is hard to imagine our present in detail. However, this is the case when you don’t need to strain your imagination, because you can order the chest of treasures and simply appreciate its content live. You can do this by making an order in the shop on our website or by making a call to the Sales Department: (044) 303-96-23. You can also buy the chest of treasures at Den’s stand No. 306 during the Publishers’ Forum in Lviv, which will be held on September 15 through 18.
