The M17 Center of Contemporary Art is displaying paintings by Oleksii Tomin. The master emphasizes that he dedicates this exhibit to his native city of Kyiv. His oil paintings, which look like sleek watercolors, depict the beauty of a dynamic and, at the same time, static architectural landscape. The movement of the crowd, the gusts of wind, the sounds of rain, and the warmth of sunrays are felt against the backdrop of old and present-day monolithic structures. The artist creates the angles and the coloring that convey the spirit and atmosphere of a street, a park, or a church as best as they can. The season, the hour, and weather conditions result in a harmonious picture, which lets everybody recall their own impressions of strolling down Podil, visiting the Caves Monastery, and dating at Mariinsky Park.

According to exhibit organizers, Cossack-theme works will be a special fragment of the exposition. In the light of the ongoing events in Ukraine, the author turns to the original sources of strength and resistance, conveying the spirit of fighting and the aspiration for victory on his canvases.

The vast majority of the displayed pictures were painted in 2015. “I try every year to organize an exhibit of my pictures, for this helps me assess the results of my work and show them to the public at large,” the author says.
